It is important to care for crops and harvest early summer crops just before you start planting for the late summer months. The plants that you choose to plant have to be able to withstand the cool weather that we will be approaching as these crops may need to bee harvest in autumn or early winter.

Some crops that you can harvest in the late stages of the summer include onions, potatoes, garlic, pepper, etc. These crops needs to be harvested as soon as edible sized crop start to grow on them. It is handy to make a record of the dates that you harvest your crop as it will be useful for coming seasons.

Tomatoes and pumpkins are other crops that can also bee harvested later in the summer. Extremely hot conditions and overwatering certain crops can cause them to loose flavour e.g melons, tomatoes and cantaloupes.

When choosing these crops, it is necessary to keep in mind that most of these crops should be able to withstand the cool weather. Greens such as lettuce, spinach, peas and so much more can be grown at this time. Most seeds will mature quickly during this time of the year as the soil at this time of the year.
